ที่บึงศรีฐาน ภายใน มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น หรือ มข. นายณรงค์ชัย อัครเศรณี นายกสภามหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น หรือ มข. พร้อมด้วย นายสมศักดิ์ จังตระกุล ผวจ.ขอนแก่น ,รศ.นพ.ชาญชัย พานทองวิริยะกุล อธิการบดีมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น นำคณะผู้บริหาร คณาจารย์ และนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ร่วมอัญเชิญพระบรมสีริกธาตุและขบวนกาลจำปากนาคบุรีศรีราชินีแห่งพงไพร ในเทศกาลวันลอยกระทงประจำปี 2564 โดยในปีนี้ มข.ได้จัดขบวนแห่ภายใต้แนวคิด มาตาธิปไตย หมายถึง หญิงผู้เป็นใหญ่ในลุ่มน้ำโขง ซึ่งเป็นรากเหง้าวัฒนธรรมอีสาน ที่สะท้อนถึงความเป็นผู้นำของผู้หญิงในอดีต ความโดดเด่นของขบวน คือเครื่องแต่งกาย ของ 5 ชนเผ่าคนอีสาน ท่าเดิน การจัดวางตำแหน่งคนร่วมขบวน ประกอบกับการแสดง โดยตลอดเส้นทางมีนักท่องเที่ยวให้ความสนใจร่วมชมความสวยงามพร้อมกับเก็บภาพความประทับใจ โดยทางมหาวิทยาลัยได้ประดับโคมไฟกว่า 9,000 ดวง และกระทงบก 17,000 ดวง ให้นักท่องเที่ยวได้ชมความงามและเก็บภาพความประทับใจ
โดยกิจกรรมในงานเริ่มจากนายกสภามหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้อัญเชิญพระบรมสารีริกธาตุประดิษฐาน ณ บุษบก พร้อมกับทำพิธีสักการะถวายขันหมากเบ็ง และพิธีสักการะบูชานาค 15 ตระกูลและพิธีสักการะบูชาสมมาน้ำ ถือเป็นสัญลักษณ์การเปิดงานลอยกระทง มข. บุญสมมา บูชาน้ำในปีนี้
ขณะที่บรรยากาศภายในงานนักท่องเที่ยวต่างทยอยเดินทางเข้าร่วมงานกันอย่างคับคั่งภายใต้มาตรการเฝ้าระวังป้องกันการแพร่ระบาดของเชื้อโควิด-19 ของสาธารณสุขจังหวัดขอนแก่นอย่างเคร่งครัด โดยทุกคนต้องผ่านจุดคัดกรอง ตรวจวัดอุณหภูมิ ล้างมือด้วยเจลแอลกอฮอล์พร้อมกับเช็คอินไทยชนะ ติดสติ๊กเกอร์ถึงจะเข้าร่วมงานได้
รศ.ดร.นิยม วงศ์พงษ์คำ รองอธิการบดี มข.กล่าวว่า งานเทศกาลลอยกระทงหรืองาน บุญสมมาบูชาน้ำ เป็นงานบุญที่แสดงออกถึงความสามัคคี ชาวบ้านทำคนเดียวไม่ได้ พระคุณเจ้าทำรูปเดียวไม่ได้ จึงต้องเน้นการมีส่วนร่วมเป็นงานบุญของ มข. โดยกิจกรรมเด่นๆที่เป็นไฮไลท์คือ 2 จุด คือ กระทงบก หรือกระทงโคก และโคมไฟ ถวายเป็นพุทธบูชา
“ความจริงเราสามารถจ้างคนข้างนอกทำได้ แต่จะไม่เกิดเห็นผลเป็นรูปธรรม ต้องขอบคุณโควิด ที่สอนให้รู้ว่า พลังสามัคคียิ่งใหญ่มาก การกระจายช่วยกันเพียงแค่ 1 สัปดาห์ ไปยัง 19 คณะ 5 วิทยาลัย กอง ศูนย์ สำนักงาน โรงเรียนสาธิต คือพลัง เห็นภาพชัดว่าคนมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นร่วมสร้างสปิริต รักสามัคคีกันได้จริง ๆ การช่วยกันสืบทอดรักษาประเพณีอันดีงามของชาวไทยนี้ ยัง สอดคล้องกับจิตวิญญาณของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น Spirit of KKU ให้เห็นถึงน้ำหนึ่งใจเดียวกันอีกด้วย”

The activities in the event started from the President of the Khon Kaen University Council. The Buddha’s relics were brought to be enshrined at Busabok, along with a ceremony to pay respect to Khan Mak Beng. and the worship ceremony of the 15 families of Nagas and the worship ceremony of Samma Nam It is a symbol of the opening of Loy Krathong KKU Boonsomma, worshiping water this year.
