หนึ่งในพระธาตุองค์สำคัญของจังหวัดนครพนม ประดิษฐานอยู่ภายในวัดมหาธาตุ (เดิมชื่อว่าวัดมิ่งเมือง) ถือเป็นพระธาตุสำหรับผู้ที่เกิดวันเสาร์ มีความสูง 24 เมตร ฐานเป็นสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัสกว้าง 5.85 เมตร สร้างเสร็จเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2465 โดยใช้เวลาสร้างประมาณสองปี จำลองแบบมาจากพระธาตุพนม (องค์เดิม) ภายในบรรจุพระอรหันตธาตุซึ่งค้นพบจากเจดีย์เก่าแก่ภายในวัดนั่นเอง
นอกจากเที่ยวชมกราบไหว้พระธาตุนครแล้ว เรายังสามารถเข้าไปสักการะองค์พระประธานในพระอุโบสถ รวมทั้งชมวิวทิวทัศน์แม่น้ำโขงซึ่งอยู่ด้านหน้าวัด เพียงแค่ข้ามถนนสุนทรวิจิตรไปอีกด้วย ในทุกปีจะมีงานฉลองสมโภชพระธาตุนคร ณ วัดมหาธาตุ ในวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 5

One of the important relics of Nakhon Phanom Province.
