เมื่อปลายพุทธศักราช 2531 ได้เริ่มดำเนินการก่อตั้งสำนักปฏิบัติธรรมมกุฎคีรีวันขึ้นโดยสมเด็จพระพุทธชินวงศ์ (ประจวบ กนฺตจาโร)ได้เป็นผู้นำบุกเบิกพื้นที่และสร้างสำนักปฏิบัติธรรมแห่งนี้ด้วยตนเอง และได้มอบหมายพระครูศรีธรรมานุศาสน์ (สมคิด ภูริสฺสโม) ปัจจุบันเป็นพระรัชมงคลวัฒน์ ประธานสงฆ์วัดชูจิตธรรมาราม วิทยาลัยสงฆ์วังน้อย จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา เป็นผู้ดูแล นับเป็นพระสงฆ์รูปแรกที่ได้พำนัก ณ สำนักปฏิบัติธรรมมกุฏคีรีวัน
ต่อมาในวันที่ 27 กันยายน พุทธศักราช 2534 พระญาณดิลก(ปัญญา สทฺธายุตฺโต) ซึ่งได้รับอุปสมบทโดยสมเด็จพระพุทธชินวงศ์ (ประจวบ กนฺตจาโร)ณ วัดมกุฏกษัตริยารามวรวิหาร กรุงเทพมหานคร ได้ขอมาพำนักที่สำนักปฏิบัติธรรมมกุฏคีรีวันแห่งนี้ ซึ่งในขณะนั้นยังมีสภาพเป็นป่าและชุกชุมไปด้วยสัตว์นานาชนิด แต่ด้วยแรงศรัทธาของญาติโยมทำให้สำนักปฏิบัติธรรมมกุฏคีรีวันแห่งนี้มีการพัฒนาเปลี่ยนแปลงเป็นลำดับมีการก่อสร้างเสนาสนะ วิหาร ศาลาการเปรียญ ตลอดจนขยายไฟฟ้า ประปา และถนนลาดยาง จนทำให้สำนักปฏิบัติธรรมมกุฏคีรีวันกลายเป็นศาสนสถานที่สวยงาม ร่มรื่นไปด้วยพันธุ์ไม้นานาชนิด เหมาะอย่างยิ่งสำหรับประพฤติปฏิบัติธรรม
ลักษณะเด่นเจดีย์ลึกลับบนเขาใหญ่ตั้งอยู่บนยอดเขาเนินปัญจสิงขร อ.ปากช่อง โดดเด่นด้วยพระมหาเจดีย์สีขาวบริสุทธิ์ขนาดใหญ่ ประวัติวัดมกุฏคีรีวัน ตั้งอยู่ที่ ต.โป่งตาลอง อ.ปากช่อง จ.นครราชสีมา วัดนี้ได้ก่อตั้งโดย สมเด็จพระพุทธชินวงศ์ อดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัดมกุฏกษัตริยารามวรวิหารกรรมการมหาเถรสมาคมและอธิการบดีมหาวิทยาลัยมหามกุฏราชวิทยาลัย ก่อตั้งสำนักปฏิบัติธรรม “มกุฏคีรีวัน” เมื่อปลายปี พุทธศักราช 2531
