วัดศรีธาตุบ้านสิงห์เดิมเป็นที่อยู่ของชาวละว้า เมื่อประมาณ พ.ศ. 1800 สมัยสุโขทัย ต่อมาเป็นเมืองร้างปกคลุมด้วยป่ารก จนกระทั่ง พระวอพระตา สำรวจที่เพื่อสร้างเมืองใหม่จากเมืองกาบแก้วบัวบาน พบพระธาตุใหญ่ร้าง พระพุทธรูปโบราณ และสิงห์หินแกะสลัก จึงได้เสี่ยงทายเพื่อสร้างเมือง ได้ผลเป็นที่ไม่เหมาะกับการสร้างเมืองจึงมอบให้เสนาพำนักอยู่แทน ส่วนตนก็แสวงหาที่สร้างเมืองแห่งใหม่ ตำบลสิงห์จึงถือกำเนิดตั้งแต่นั้นเป็นต้นมา
