วัดไร่สวรรค์เริ่มก่อสร้างเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2527 โดยมีพระธรรมปริยัติโมลี (อดีตเจ้าคณะภาค 8 และอดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัดมัชฌิมาวาสพระอารามหลวง) เป็นประธานมีพระครูโพธานุวัตรอดีตเจ้าอาวาวัดโพธิวรารามและอดีตวัดเจ้าคณะอำเภอเมทองจังหวัดอุดรธานีเป็นรองประธาน พระครูโฆสิตคณารักษ์ อดีตเจ้าอาวาสบ้านโนนหวายและอดีตเจ้าคณะอำเภอหนองวัวซอเป็นรองประธาน มีคุณแม่วิลัยธรรมรังสี เป็นผู้ถวายที่ดินสร้างวัดจำนวน 6 ไร่ (ปัจจุบันทางวัดได้ซื้อเพิ่มเติมอีก 22 ไร่ รวมเป็น 28 ไร่) เมื่อทุกอย่างพร้อมแล้ว พระธรรมปริยัติโมลี จึงสั่งให้ดำเนินการขออนุญาตสร้างวัดจากกรมการศาสนาให้ถูกต้องด้วย ท่านได้ตั้งชื่อวัดว่า วัดหนองวัวซอธรรมรังสี เพื่อให้เป็นวัดของชาวบ้านหนองวัวซอทุกคน และมีนามสกุลของเจ้าภาพผู้ถวายที่ดินต่อท้ายชื่อวัดด้วย เพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่วงศ์ตระกูลขึ้นไป
