ร.ต.อ.เทียนชัย ยุรปัทมการ รับแจ้งจากศูนย์วิทยุมีเหตุแทงกันเสียชีวิตที หมู่ที่ 18 บ้านพัฒนาภิบาล ตำบลเซกา อำเภอเซกา จังหวัดบึงกาฬ จึงรายงานให้ พ.ต.อ.ธำรงชัย ไล้ทองดีผกก.ทราบ จึงรุดไปยังที่เกิดเหตุพร้อมด้วย พ.ต.ท.กรชน์ แสงกนึก รอง ผกก.สส.พ.ต.ต.พนมไพร หลักแหลม สว.สส.ตำรวจชุดสายตรวจ และตำรวจพิสูจน์หลักฐานบึงกาฬ พร้อมประสาน นพ.ธนวัฒน์ กันธาพรม แพทย์ รพ.เซกา กู้ภัยสัจธรรมเซกา และกู้ภัยเทพารักษ์เซกา ที่เกิดเหตุเป็นบ้านปูนชั้นเดียวห่างจากชายคาหน้าบ้านประมาณ 1 เมตร พบผู้เสียชีวิตนอนคว่ำหน้าสภาพศพสวมกางเกงขาสั้นสีเทาไม่ใส่เสื้อ ตามร่างกายพบบาดแผลที่ชายโครงด้านซ้าย ถูกของมีคมแทงกว้าง 3 ซ.ม.ลึกประมาณ 10 ซ.ม.มีรอยเลือดที่แห้งแล้วตกอยู่หน้าบ้าน และจุดพบศพมีมดแดงไต่ตามร่างกาย คาดว่าถูกแทงที่หน้าบ้านแล้วคลานออกมาเสียชีวิตอยู่ข้างบ้าน ตายมาแล้วประมาณ 4 ชั่วโมง ทราบชื่อต่อมา นายสุริยา หรือโลน อายุ 43 ปี บ้านเซกาเหนือ หมู่ที่ 14 ตำบลเซกา อำเภอเซกา
ต่อมาเจ้าหน้าที่ชุดสืบสวน ได้ไปควบคุมตัวชายต้องสงสัยคือเจ้าของบ้านเกิดเหตุ ทราบชื่อนายประหยัด 51 ปี พร้อมมีดปลายแหลมเปื้อนเลือดยาวประมาณ 1 ฟุต 1 เล่ม ส่วนมีดปลายแหลมอีกเล่มยาวประมาณ 1ฟุตครึ่ง อยู่ในย่ามถุงปุ๋ยที่ผู้ต้องหาสะพายติดตัวตลอด
สอบสวนนายประหยัด เบื้องต้นยอมรับสารภาพว่าได้ทำร้ายผู้ตายจริงเนื่องจากทะเลาะกันในวงเหล้า ซึ่งขณะนั้นเวลาประมาณตีสอง ก่อนเกิดเหตุได้ไปนั่งดื่มกินที่บ้านผู้ตาย แต่ยังเมาไม่พอจึงมากินต่อที่บ้านตัวเอง ขณะเมาได้ที่จึงเกิดการทะเลาะกัน โดยผู้ตายพูดจาไม่เข้ารูหู ตนโมโหจึงได้คว้ามีดปลายแหลมที่วางอยู่ข้างๆ แทงเข้าซี่โครงด้านซ้ายของผู้ตาย จากนั้นก็เข้าไปนอนในบ้านหลับจนถึง 6 โมงเช้า แล้วเดินเข้าไปปลุกผู้ตายนึกว่าเมานอนหลับ จึงทราบว่าไม่มีลมหายใจแล้ว จึงเดินไปบอกเพื่อนบ้านว่ามีการแทงกันตายที่หน้าบ้านของตน และไปบอกเพื่อนอีกคนที่อยู่หมู่บ้านเดียวกัน และถูกตำรวจตามมาจับกุมดังกล่าว
