พระธาตุคู่เมืองนครพนม สร้างมาตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2455 โดยจำลองแบบมาจากพระธาตุพนมแต่มีขนาดเล็กกว่า ภายในบรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุและพระอรหันตธาตุ ซึ่งอัญเชิญมาจากเมืองย่างกุ้ง ประเทศเมียนมาร์ รวมทั้งพระพุทธรูปและของมีค่าต่างๆ ซึ่งนอกจากความสง่างามขององค์พระธาตุแล้ว ลวดลายปูนปั้นรอบองค์พระธาตุที่บอกเล่าเรื่องราวพุทธชาดก ก็น่าชมน่าศึกษาในรายละเอียดไม่แพ้กัน
โดยทุกปีจะมีการจัดงานนมัสการพระธาตุในวันขึ้น 13 ค่ำ ถึงแรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 4 นอกจากนี้ พระธาตุท่าอุเทนยังถือเป็นพระธาตุประจำวันเกิดของคนที่เกิดวันศุกร์ เชื่อกันว่าหากมานมัสการพระธาตุแห่งนี้จะได้รับอานิสงส์ให้ชีวิตมีความรุ่งโรจน์เปรียบดั่งพระอาทิตย์
